Free training for Jobs in Commercial Building Sustainability
South Seattle Community College and the Workforce Development Council of Seattle – King County are teaming up to provide two hands-on training sessions for career development in Commercial Building Sustainability. Classes begin in January 2011 and will be held at the Georgetown Campus of South Seattle Community College.

High Performance Buildings: The Integration of Science & Sustainability
A class that examines how high‐performing buildings function, highlights career pathways in this field and teaches methods of determining building sustainability.
Description: This 44 hour course provides an overview of the terms & technology used to define high performance building and sustainability function. It is intended to provide building decision makers and students with an understanding of current and future jobs and job functions associated with building sustainability management and guide their future career choices. During this course students will review the LEED‐EBOM process and fill out a LEED checklist for a specific project. They will also be introduced to the Energy Star Portfolio Manager and learn to input facility and utility data. The course includes a final project to document a building’s sustainability status.
Level 1 Commercial Energy Auditing
Learn techniques of commercial building auditing for energy efficiency and conservation improvements.
Description: This 160 hour course combines class and field study to teach the basics of auditing a commercial facility for energy use. It includes curriculum that is certification‐based for systems. The successful graduate will be able to assess and report on the status of energy use for simple commercial buildings and recommend a path forward for further investigation, upgrade and improvement.
